INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — At least four people worked together to steal nearly a dozen car batteries from a southeast side body shop.
This isn’t the first time Walker’s Auto Body has been hit by thieves, now owner Tim Walker is speaking out about it and asking for the public’s help.
Tim Walker said he is devastated and watching the surveillance video makes him angry and upset.
“It’s all about them. That’s our new society,” Walker said.
Two people are seen in the video going from vehicle to vehicle.
“Well, everything is worth something now. Junk, fenders, metal scrapping, catalytic converters, batteries, and this is how some of these people make their living while we’re sleeping,” Walker said.
They collected 11 car batteries in a span of about 45 minutes. At least two other people are seen outside the Walker’s Body Shop fence, backing the battery burglars. The damage will add up to a $1,500 blow for Walker.
“It’s just a cost that you don’t want to absorb,” Walker said.
To make matter worse, Walker points out potential witnesses just passing by in the video.
“Several cars go by during the time this is happening and I’m just surprised that no one has seen them and took the time to hit 911 on their cell phone and help me out a little bit,” Walker said.
He hopes by sharing this surveillance video, someone will come forward with a tip for Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives.
“Let’s catch these people. I’m not the only one and I feel for the other people that are hit worse than I am and I’m sure there’s people that have experienced a lot worse than I have,” Walker said.
Police have not arrested anyone for the burglary. Anyone with information can call 262-TIPS.
As for replacing the batteries, Walker says he’s waiting a while. He fears the thieves may come back.
