During further investigation, the trooper found the driver to be unsteady on his feet, nervous, and appeared to kick something under the vehicle.

A search under the car found about 18 grams of suspected marijuana in a plastic bag.

After searching the car, officers found less than three grams of suspected marijuana, along with Schedule IV prescription pills, that the driver didn’t have a prescription to.

After failing a field sobriety test, police arrested 24-year-old Bradley T.J. Chowning of Terre Haute. He was preliminarily charged with possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, operating while intoxicated, and possession of marijuana.

A passenger in the car, 32-year-old Richard T. Gibbs also from Terre Haute, was arrested on a failure to appear warrant.

Both men were being held in the Vigo County Jail on Tuesday.
