Man pleads guilty after deadly freak accident

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A South Bend man has pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident while driving intoxicated causing serious bodily injury in a freak accident where a minivan passenger was killed when her head hit a telephone pole guy wire while she leaned out the window because she was sick.

Twenty-three-year-old Kyle Papa also pleaded guilty Monday to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated resulting in the death of another person, possession of marijuana, driving without a license and possession of marijuana with a prior conviction for possession of marijuana.

Twenty-four-year-old Amanda Ezra was killed June 15 when she leaned out the window and her head hit the wire, causing her head to hit the van.
