INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Many people trying to get in and out of Chicago were still stranded Saturday afternoon.
The majority of flights headed to Chicago from Indianapolis Saturday morning and afternoon were delayed or canceled, after a fire at a suburban Chicago air traffic control facility shut down the city’s two airports.
Police said an employee intentionally set the fire. Emergency crews found the man in the basement with a self-inflicted wound and took him to a hospital.
Airlines in Indianapolis worked to book passengers on new flights, but many passengers had to wait at Indianapolis International Airport for hours.
24-Hour News 8 spoke with several people waiting for their loved ones to arrive from Chicago, not even knowing what flight they were on because of the chaos at O’Hare. Others travelers were back at the airport on Saturday, after their flights were canceled on Friday.
Indianapolis International Airport said flights in Indy should be back on schedule by Sunday morning.
