Body positively identified as missing Dunkirk woman

JAY COUNTY (WISH) – DNA tests submitted by Indiana State Police have positively identified the body located in rural Jay County on Sept. 1.

According to the Jay County prosecuting attorney the body is that of Brianna DiBattiste, who was last seen on June 16 in Dunkirk.

The body was found by members of the Jay County Conservation Club in a wooded section off of County Road 650 South. That is at the Jay County Conservation Club.

“Testing took longer than initially anticipated due to the condition of the body,” said Jay County Prosecuting Attorney Wes Schemenaur in a release sent to 24-Hour News 8.

Although the body was badly decomposed preliminary investigation showed the remains were DiBattiste.

“Investigators were confident upon discovery of the body that it was in fact Ms. DiBattiste based on artifacts found near the body at the scene and the family was informed accordingly. Having the DNA results confirms those initial observations,” said Schemenaur.

A cause of death is still not clear.
