Reservoir plans not yet moving shopping mall

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) — The owners of Mounds Mall in Anderson are looking at relocation options in case a proposed seven-mile-long reservoir is built.

Mounds Mall co-owner Virgil Cook says talk about the shopping center possibly closing isn’t true.

What Cook calls rumors come as some community leaders are working on plans for damming the White River near the mall to create Mounds Lake Reservoir.

Mounds Mall leasing official Jesse Wilkerson tells The Herald Bulletin that new tenants are being actively sought for the mall, but that it is exploring options for relocating to property near Hoosier Park Casino on the city’s south side.

Wilkerson says the mall ownership doesn’t have control over the reservoir project and any mall relocation depends on that happening. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
