VFW could lose thousands

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – VFW Post 2999 is located on the 3500 block of English Avenue. For decades the post has hosted receptions, graduation open houses, and parties.

The VFW charges about $400 to rent out the facilities a day, and $175 as a deposit. The money raised goes back to the VFW, children charities, and the VA Hospital.

That revenue now appears to be in jeopardy. Leaders at the VFW have suspended parties at the post indefinitely.

This comes after a shooting in the post’s parking lot, and along English Avenue. Several people were shot, none of the injuries are life-threatening, and all were listed in good conditions.

“We have never had a gunfire happen here in the parking lot,” said Judy Latham VFW Bartender.

Police arrested and charged 20-year-old Vernell Ballard for Resisting Law Enforcement. Investigators have not released any information on additional arrest.

Detectives consider this an active investigation and urge anyone with additional information to contact Crime Stoppers of Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS (8477). Callers may also text “INDYCS” plus tip information to 274637 (CRIMES).
