INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The murder case against Demarcus French has been dropped as another teen was charged in the murder.
James Johnson, 16, was shot and killed July 8, 2013 in the playground area of Hawthorne Place Apartments on East 32nd Street. French had originally been charged with his murder, but now the focus of the case has moved to 16-year-old Jabril Scruggs. According to court documents, Scruggs was charged this week with murder for Johnson’s death.
Scruggs has another case pending against him. He’s the teen accused of raping a female student in the hallway of Lawrence Central High School earlier this year. He’s charged with rape and criminal confinement in adult court for that case.
A witness reported seeing Scruggs point a gun at Johnson and shoot him, according to court documents.
