TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Western Indiana authorities have charged a Terre Haute man in the June killing of a homeless man whose headless body was found in the Wabash River.
Fifty-four-year-old Jay E. Millen was charged Friday with murder and six other counts during a video link appearance in Vigo Superior Court. A judge appointed Millen a public defender and set his trial for March 30.
The Tribune-Star reports a probable cause affidavit alleges Millen killed 50-year-old Michael Pollack and then decapitated and disemboweled his body.
Pollack’s body was found June 8 by two fishermen in the Wabash River.
Millen was arrested July 2. He allegedly used Pollack’s food stamp debit card June 1 at a local store, and police say June 3 video footage shows Pollack walking to Millen’s riverside camp.
