Woman injured in apartment fire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A woman is in the hospital and several people are out of their homes after a fire early Friday.

Fire crews were called to the Crooked Creek Tower Apartments in the 7900 block of North Michigan Road around 1 a.m.

The Pike Township Firefighters say they don’t know how the fire started on the first floor of the building, but they were able to  keep the flames from spreading to the building’s eight other floors.

Medics took the injured woman to the hospital where doctors treated the woman for burns and  breathing in too much smoke.

Another resident who tried to help get the woman out of her apartment was treated and released at the scene.

Firefighters say seven other apartments had water damage.

The apartments are a senior unassisted residence.
