VAN BUREN, Ind. (WISH) — One person died Sunday night around 10 p.m. when their vehicle crashed in rural Grant County, Indiana State Police officials said.

The crash happened west of the intersection of State Road 5 and County Road 200 North, which is south of Van Buren. Only one vehicle was involved.

A Poneto, Ind. teen died as a result of the crash. According to a preliminary investigation Luke Boughman, 19, was driving his 1992 Isuzu Rodeo east on Grand County Road 200 North when he traveled off the south side of the road into a ditch. Police said his vehicle then struck a utility pole and rolled over at least one time.

According to police, Boughman was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. The Grant County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

A passenger, Kelsea Trosper, 17, of Poneto was transported to Marion General Hospital for minor injuries.  Trooper Weston Shanks said Trosper avoided more serious injuries because she was wearing a seat belt.

According to the preliminary investigation, Boughman was arguing with Trosper before the crash.

Police said the investigation into the crash will continue.
