INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Wayne Township Firefighter Lt. Ken Feckete didn’t know what to expect when call for help came in Tuesday morning near Kentucky Avenue and Raymond Street. The caller told dispatchers that a mother was in labor inside a taxi cab.
When firefighters got to the scene they found the mother in the back seat with a new born baby girl nestled in her mother’s pants.
“She was very appreciative and calm,” said Feckete.
Crews rushed the mother and baby to the IU Methodist Hospital. Firefighters tell 24-Hour News 8, that the mother and baby were doing just fine.
The cab driver who tried to transport the mother to the hospital is the baby’s uncle. According to Wayne Township Firefighters calls for help delivering babies happen several times each year.
“Overall we were very proud that we were able to get in there, and be professionals and rely on the training we had,” said Feckete.
24-Hour News 8, made attempts to reach out to the mother and the cab driver, but those attempts were unsuccessful.
