MARION COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — The Fraternal Order of Police and the Marion County Prosecutor team up to ask for more police on the streets.

It’s a demand heard from the FOP before, but now they say there is money in the 2015 budget to support it. There is already a goal to add nearly 60 officers, but FOP officials and Prosecutor Terry Curry would like to see even more hired. This comes nearly a week after Public Safety Director Troy Riggs rolled out a new initiative for fighting crime.

“Right now we’re kinda looking at the horizon and the question is, yes, it will be successful with these additional officers, but it will be even more successful if we get even more officers,” FOP 86 Vice President Rick Snyder said.

24-Hour News 8 spoke to Mayor Ballard’s office following the announcement. His spokesman said the mayor has been asking for more officers for three years and is supportive of Director Riggs plan.

During the announcement today, the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #86 also formally endorsed Terry Curry in his reelection campaign for Marion County Prosecutor.
