Agencies serve search warrant at Centers of Pain Relief

MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) – A search warrant was served at the Centers of Pain Relief clinic in Muncie on Monday.

According to a release the warrant was part of an ongoing investigation for possible over-prescribing for prescription painkillers to patients along with possible forgery and fraud served by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Indianapolis District Office, the Delaware County Drug Task Force, Muncie Police and the Indiana Attorney General’s Office’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.

No arrests have been made and no criminal charges have been filed.

The release said the warrant is part of an ongoing investigation for Dr. William P. Hedrick who runs the Centers for Pain Relief clinics at 11 other locations. The location in the 3300 block of Fox Ridge Lane in Muncie is the 12 clinic.

During the search investigators obtained patient files, prescription records, billing statements and receipts, computers and hard drives containing data, as well as cell phones and other mobile devices. All of the evidence collected will be reviewed by the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office.

Also on Monday, the Attorney General’s Office filed a petition with the Indiana Medical Licensing Board to suspended Dr. Hedrick’s license to practice.

After an April 2013 investigation Hedrick’s medical license was put on probation for a minimum of two years. Hedrick was also required to follow several restrictions to keep his license.
