Books & Brews unites craft beer enthusiasts with book worms to create a local brewbub

“It’s a great place to reconnect with people,” says Jason Wuerfel, Owner and Brewmaster, Books & Brews.

Books & Brews is owned and operated by husband and wife team Jason Wuerfel and Sarah Dame. Two college English majors who combined an independent bookstore setting with a brewpub. They offer local products for locals. Their menu is full of locally sourced food items and brews. At Books & Brews they passionate about disconnecting people from technology and reconnecting them with each other; we have a heavy social-event schedule and offer products by locals for locals.

Opening a business like Books & Brews just made sense to Jason; it combines his two loves, craft beer and the arts. After several years of planning, Books & Brews opened in March of 2014. With a tight budget, he decided on an industrial location near a busy highway a bit off the beaten path. Luckily, the newsworthy nature of the business helped attract some early customers, but they soon found it difficult to get the word out to demographics outside the hardcore craft beer crowd. That’s when Jason decided to give Groupon a shot. In sharing his story with Groupon’s “Built With Groupon” campaign, Jason explained how he was blown away with the immediate response he saw from Groupon users. “We had no less than 15 Groupons redeemed on the very first day the deal went live and we typically get five to 10 coming through every night since.” Jason, who was chosen as a finalist for the Built With Groupon campaign, said that since teaming up with Groupon he’s been able to afford to hire a full-time GM and a part-time assistant brewer, giving him more time for ownership duties and working on expanding his brand.
