INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Zoo officials say they anticipate the Skyline Ride will remain closed for the rest of 2014.

On Sunday, Oct. 12, the Skyline Ride stopped, stranding several passengers in their cars.

A zoo spokesperson said a drive-shaft in the gearbox of the gondola broke, which caused the gondola to stop.

“Since we are moving into a season where the weather conditions would stop ride operations, we anticipate the Skyline Ride will remain closed for the remainder of 2014. We don’t foresee any inspections until spring or early summer when the weather gets warmer,” said Judy Palermo the Senior Manager Public Relations for the Indianapolis Zoo.

Officials say the defective drive-shaft was replaced and the disabled gondola is now operating properly.
