HARTSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – Two people received minor burns after their home exploded and caught fire in Bartholomew County Sunday morning.

Hartsville Fire Chief Ed Johnson told 24-Hour News 8’s news partners at the Columbus Republic that firefighters were dispatched around 2:45 a.m. to a home in the 200 block of Harrison Street.

The homeowner, William Imel,  and a friend were inside the home when it exploded and caught fire.  The explosion caused the windows to blow out.

The two victims were transported to a local hospital for burns to their hands and feet. Johnson said both had returned to the scene since the fire was out.

Two cats died in the fire.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
