Indiana excise arrests, cites 70 during Halloween weekend

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indiana excise officers arrested or cited 70 people across Indiana college campuses during Halloween weekend.

According to police, officers issued 60 citations or summonses to 42 people at Ball State University while working in the campus area on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Offenses included illegal possession or consumption of an alcoholic beverage, possession of false identification, furnishing alcoholic beverages to a minor and traffic-related offenses. Most of those arrests occurred on Halloween night where 29 people were cited or summoned.

24-Hour News 8 was there when excise came into contact with a 19-year-old woman struggling to walk down a side street in Muncie. She had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .265 and was taken to the hospital.

Officers also arrested or cited 20 people in Bloomington Friday night. 16 minors were issued summonses for illegal possession or consumption of an alcoholic beverage. Four of those minors were also cited for possession of false identification. Other citations were for traffic-related offenses.

In Richmond, excise officers issued summonses to four people near the Earlham College campus on Friday night for charges that included illegal possession or consumption of an alcoholic beverage, possession of false identification, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Four people were also arrested on Friday night in Terre Haute near the campus of Indiana State University.  Two minors were issued summonses for illegal possession or consumption of alcohol. Two adults were cited for giving alcohol to a minor and inducing a minor to possess an alcoholic beverage.
