INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indiana State Museum opened a new exhibit on Sunday honoring Indiana heroes ahead of Veterans Day.

Every year, the museum collects pictures of vets and active military from people across the state. Organizers received fives times the submissions this year compared to the past.

The images are displayed on a magnetic board so visitors can pull each photo off to read about each person’s service and hometown.

“I’ve been sifting through all of these photos for the past month and a half and I feel like I know their names and their stories and some definitely stand out. We’ve got a lot of soldiers with their children,” Rebecca Smith, with the Indiana State Museum, said.

You can visit the project every day through November 11. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
