Indy men raising money to open arcade bar downtown

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Jeff Moulton’s living room sits packed with more than 40 retro arcade games. He and his business partner, Austin Howard, aim to eventually put the games in a downtown Indianapolis bar.

Moulton said the bar would be called Tappers Arcade Bar, named after the classic video game. He has games like Space Invaders, Centipede, Asteroids and more.

“For some people, it’s going to be a trip down nostalgia lane and for other people, it will be discovering what the genesis of video games looked like,” said Moulton.B1c7zx1CAAACQ9t

The pair is currently raising money through a crowdfunding website to get enough money to get the bar up and running. So far, supporters have donated more than $16,000, but Moulton needs to raise $30,000 by November 26 or they don’t get to keep any of the money.

Tappers would serve local craft beer and have food trucks on site. Unlike other arcade bars around the country, the games at Tappers would be free.

“The arcade bar concept is awesome because it makes these old arcade games into a viable business plan. You make money on the beer. My theory is that if people stay longer, they’ll drink more,” said Moulton.

Moulton hopes to put the bar in Fountain Square. If enough donations come in, Moulton plans on opening the bar in spring of 2015.
