ELKHART, Ind. (AP) — Police say a bullet shattered a drink cooler window of a neighborhood store in Elkhart where the store owner and an employee were fatally shot during a robbery last year.

Police were called Sunday to Saleh’s Market after several gunshots were fired nearby. Police Sgt. Travis Snider tells The Elkhart Truth one bullet came from outside through a wall. A few customers were inside, but no injuries were reported.

Two men were sentenced to at least 100 years in prison on murder convictions for the September 2013 deaths of 55-year-old Jagtar Bhatti and 20-year Pawan Singh at the store.

Courtney Doolittle lives across the street from the store. She tells WSBT-TV she believes more police patrols are needed in the area because many children go to the store. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
