MARION COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Police said a man who tried to escaped from the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center Friday by taking a ceiling tile and crawling to another part of the building was caught.

Officers said after William Nebireza removed the tile around 2:39 p.m. Friday, he then attempted to kick out a wooden panel over the plumbing for the toilets. A control operator saw Nebireza and reported the attempted escape.

According to police, Nebireza began his escape from the general population area in the APC and never successfully exited the secured area of the APC. The attempted escape began and ended over a period of 17 minutes.

Police said Nebireza had been arrested on an outright warrant for Burglary and Resisting a Police Officer.

Nebireza has a criminal history ranging back to 1994. He has been arrested for Public Intoxication, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury, Domestic Battery, and Possession of Controlled Substances.  His most recent previous arrest was in November 2013.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are investigating the situation and will present the case to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for possible further charges.
