False robbery report prompted IUPUI alert

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — IUPUI alerted students Friday morning to a robbery on campus, but it ended up not being true.

IUPUI told students in an alert that there was a robbery at 6:40 a.m. at 535 Barnhill Drive. About three hours later, the university sent a follow-up message saying Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department investigators determined the robbery never happened.

It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone would be arrested for making a false report.

Friday’s alert follows Wednesday night robbery in a parking lot at 1200 Indiana Ave. A student had his wallet stolen.
