KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) — A portion of the new four-story parking garage has opened in downtown Kokomo.
Mayor Greg Goodnight says one entrance was opened Monday as the first three levels of the garage were made available to motorists. He says the city is still waiting on a few things, including elevators and signage, but the second entrance will probably be open by Friday. All of the available parking spaces are currently free and open to the public.
The top level of the parking garage will remain closed as construction crews finish building an adjoining apartment complex. The Kokomo Tribune reports construction on the 39-unit apartment will be complete next spring.
When fully operational, the structure will offer about 400 parking spaces, 80 of which will be reserved for county government employees and 39 for apartment residents.
