The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department posted pictures to their Facebook page on Tuesday, giving a nod to East District Officer Helton.

They say Officer Helton found a wandering dog alone Monday night in the cold. That’s when police say the officer took the dog in, fed him a sandwich and gave him a warm place to stay.

Police say it’s an important reminder to bring your pets in when temperatures get cold. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
