Columbus PD arrests woman for human trafficking

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – During a routine traffic stop late Tuesday night, an officer discovered he had pulled over a woman who had a warrant for human trafficking.

Around 11:55 p.m., Officer Paul Garnett stopped 22-year-old Laura E. Thomas for an ‘equipment violation’.

When Officer Garnett checked the system, he found Thomas had a warrant out of Maryland on charges of Commercial Sex and Human Trafficking.

Officials say the warrant was issued because of a 2012 investigation that alleges she was a part of a prostitution recruiting scheme involving young girls.

Thomas was taken into custody and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
