Police: 11-year-old found with head in crib slats

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Johnson County police said an 11-year-old boy with Down syndrome died Saturday afternoon.

According to the sheriff’s department, Tyler Lukins was found unresponsive in his crib in his home located in the 1100 block of N. Leisure Lane. Police said Lukins was found with his head between the crib slats.

Lukins functions at the level of a 1-year-old and was confined to a wheelchair when he wasn’t in bed, according to police. He also didn’t speak.

Police said Lukins was taken to Community Hospital South where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine Lukins’ cause and manner of death.
