INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Power and Light Company crews are investigating after an incident involving a manhole cover downtown Monday morning.

Around 8:30 a.m., crews responded to the 300 block of New York Street. IPL had received a call about a dislodged manhole cover.

Crews arrived and found a manhole full of water. They believe that caused secondary cables to short.

No IPL customers were affected by the incident. Crews were working to pump out the water so they could further investigate. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
