FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – It didn’t take long for Fort Wayne police to catch the suspect in the robbery of a pharmacy last Friday.

The robbery took place at around 6:30 p.m. at the Walgreens located at the intersection of Liberty Mills and West Jefferson.

According to pharmacy employees and customers who had witnessed the robbery, a man had pulled a hammer out from his coat or pants and proceeded to jump over the counter yelling, “I want some oxy.” A pharmacist went over to a safe where the drugs are stored and the robber stated he wanted some Xanax as well.

The pharmacist opened the time delayed safe, and the robber while holding the hammer up in the air yelled, “Give it to me, now!” The robber took the drugs he had been handed and jumped back over the counter and fled the store.

The manager was able to take a photo of the robber’s license plate and other witnesses were able to give police a good description of the car.

Later that evening, the car was spotted at a drive-thru in the 200 block of East Rudisill after police received a call about a possible intoxicated driver. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
