GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — Thousands of Johnson County residents were without power Monday night, though it wasn’t immediately clear why.

Duke Energy reported about 2,600 customers without power as of 7 p.m. Johnson County REMC’s online outage map appeared to be malfunctioning, but its Facebook page indicated at the height of the outages that 9,700 customers were without power. As of 7:15 p.m., 4,100 REMC customers remained without power.

The Bargersville Fire Department indicated on its Facebook page that the department had responded to a number of calls Monday of power lines down due to high winds.

Duke Energy’s website indicated power should be restored to Johnson County by 9:30 p.m. The primary areas affected were the south side of Greenwood, Bargersville and parts of Center Grove. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
