INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One person was killed when a vehicle pursuit ended on the northeast side of Indianapolis Friday morning.

Police received a call around 8:30 a.m. from a woman who said she was warming up her car in her driveway and found the vehicle had been stolen.

About 30 minutes later, officers located the car in the 3500 block of Orchard Avenue. After police activated their emergency lights, the driver pulled into a parking lot nearby and stopped the car.

As the officer got out of his car to approach the vehicle, the driver fled the scene at a high rate of speed.

According to police, when the driver got to East 38th Street and North Sherman Drive he swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle, lost control, and hit a tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified. No one else was in the car. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
