Apartment fire displaces two families

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Fire heavily damaged an apartment building and displaced two families on the southeast side of the city Saturday morning.

At 8:18 a.m. fire crews were sent to the 1900 Block of Earhart Street on a report of a fire in the Grand Villa Co-op Apartments.

When fire crews arrived smoke was pouring from the two story apartment building.

Firefighters say the apartment where the fire started was unoccupied and under rehabilitation.

Two adjacent apartments were occupied and those families had to be evacuated.

One resident told firefighters that she smelled smoke about the time her neighbors started knocking on her door.

No one was hurt. The apartment management said they would help to relocated those that were displaced.

Firefighters brought the fire under control in 15 minutes.

Damage was estimated at $100,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation
