INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Junior quarterback Max Bortenschlager threw for 195 yards and three touchdowns and running back Evan Christopher rushed 11 times for 62 yards and three touchdowns in Cathedral’s 56-7 victory over LaPorte in the Class 5A state title game.
Records fell, and the Irish cemented themselves in Indiana prep football history Saturday with their state-record 30th consecutive tournament win and unprecedented fifth straight state championship.
LaPorte senior running back Charles Salary ran for 123 yards and a touchdown, finishing the season with a school record 2,989 yards on the ground.
The title was Cathedral’s 12th title in school history. Rick Streiff claimed his 10th title as head coach, moving him into first place for titles by a coach.
