INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Football fans were greeted by protesters ahead of the Colts game on Sunday.

A group calling on the Washington Redskins organization to change its name gathered outside Lucas Oil Stadium. The American Indian Movement planned the display.

Protesters say the term used as the team’s mascot is considered a racial slur.

“No matter where this team plays, no matter where this word is spoken or written – that it is a word that is seeped in that derogatory manner,” Albert Running Wolf, chairman of the American Indian Movement said on Sunday.

Similar protests were organized at other Washington away games across the country. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
