Trial of Indianapolis man in rural murder delayed

Mugshot of Edward Thompson

NEW CASTLE, Ind. (AP) — A judge has agreed to delay the trial of an Indianapolis man charged with using a shotgun to murder another Indianapolis man in Henry County.

Thirty-five-year-old Edward Thompson had been set to stand trial in the death of 22-year-old Zackery Soots on Feb. 9. The Star Press reports Judge Mary Willis instead scheduled a hearing on evidence for Feb. 9. A new trial date has not been set.

Soots’ body was found April 13 in Montgomery Creek in western Henry County. An autopsy later revealed he had been shot at least three times with a shotgun. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
