State Fairgrounds Coliseum gets new name

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana State Fairground Coliseum has a new name: Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

The Indiana State Fair Commission and the Indy Fuel minor league hockey team held a news conference Tuesday with executives of Carmel-based Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Company regarding naming rights for the refurbished arena. It reopened in April after $63 million in improvements that kept it closed for 18 months.

The 75-year-old arena was known as Pepsi Coliseum from 1991 until the soft-drink company’s contract ended in 2012. Fairgrounds officials said in July they expected the new naming-rights deal to be more lucrative than the $170,000 a year that Pepsi paid.

Besides hosting the Fuel, the Coliseum also is the home for IUPUI’s basketball teams. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
