ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, GUAM (WISH) – The Coast Guard and Air Force are searching for an airman missing in Guam, who is from Mooresville.

The Air force says Airman Alec Dye was last seen near Andersen Air Force base in Guam on Monday.

The family of the 24-year-old told 24-Hour News 8 they’re getting daily updates from the ground as crews search for him. The Guam Police Department Marine Unit, U.S. Navy Helicopter and the Coast Guard are all searching the area.

Dye’s family says he was on an eight month deployment to the area.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Airman Dye and his family and friends,” said Col. Tyrell Chamberlain, 36th Wing vice commander, in a statement. “Emergency responders from across the island are continuing to work around the clock to return him to his family and wingmen.”

The circumstances surrounding his disappearance are unknown at this time.
