TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — A Purdue student accused of attacking another student on campus has filed notice he plans to use an insanity defense.
Boda Wu, 21, was arrested in August after police say he tried to strangle a woman with a cellphone charging cord. Although, the mug shot shown is from a prior arrest on May 3.
Investigators say the incident happened on Aug. 31 between the buildings of Hovde and Elliott. 24-Hour News 8’s sister station at WLFI-TV has already reported, the woman managed to scream and get the cord off her neck. Wu then grabbed her throat with both hands and continued strangling the victim.
According to court documents, witnesses heard the victim scream and helped get Wu off the woman. The victim says she does not know Wu.
Wu faces five felony charges including battery, strangulation and criminal confinement.
A status hearing on the case is set for Friday. A jury trial has been set for Feb. 24, 2015.
