INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Tenants living in the Glendower Apartments were ordered to move out by Wednesday after a court hearing Tuesday morning.
In late November the apartment complex was without heat for over a week, before the health department issued an emergency order declaring the apartments unsafe.
The court issued an order to vacate to Meridian Property Holdings LLC, the apartments building owner. That means all of the remaining occupants must move out of the building by Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Residents were using their stove tops and ovens to heat their apartments, but the gas was shut off.
Nine residents remained in the building on Tuesday. They were receiving assistance from the property manager to move out.
On Nov. 25 the owner was ordered daily fines of $2,500 a day for every day the building was occupied. On Tuesday the fine was $20,000 and will continue to grow until the building is no longer occupied.
The Marion County Public Health Department will re-inspect the building on Thursday to make sure it is vacant.
