INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Cummins Inc. unveiled plans on Wednesday to locate their new global distribution business headquarters in the heart of downtown Indianapolis.

The company presented to the city’s Metropolitan Development Commission Wednesday morning. Cummins says the building will be a 10-story office tower with retail on the first floor. Plans were first announced back in March.

The building will be positioned on the 4-acres where Market Square Arena once stood, at Market, Alabama, Washington and New Jersey streets. The area would also be developed into a public greenspace, a feature Mayor Greg Ballard said he is most excited about.

Cummins said they expect to break ground in early 2015 and open in late 2016. The Metropolitan Development Commission could vote on the plan as early as Dec. 17.

The global engine maker’s headquarters will remain in Columbus, Indiana where it has been for 95 years. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
