Man sentenced for shooting near Arsenal Tech High School

MARION COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A man who pleaded guilty to shooting his teenager ex-girlfriend near Arsenal Tech High School in June was sentenced to 42 years on Thursday.

Officials said 20-year-old William Alvies was sentenced to 42 years with 22 of those years being executed at the Department of Corrections.

Police said Alvies shot his ex-girlfriend near the high school on June 3. The two were apparently arguing before he shot at her. She was hit in the shoulder as she ran away from Alvies.

Police said Alvies’ ex-girlfriend had a protective order against him at the time of the shooting.

Alvies pleaded guilty to attempted murder and carrying a handgun charges on Nov. 20 as part of a plea deal. Officials said Alvies also pleaded guilty to auto theft in an unrelated 2013 case. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
