ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) – Steve and Joeatta Sells are scheduled to face a judge in the Madison County Courthouse on Friday.
According to investigators, police arrested the couple after finding Steve’s teenage daughter in critical condition. Detectives discovered the 15-year-old weighing less than 40 pounds, and trapped in filth inside the Sells’ home.
Police said the couple starved the teenage girl and she was severely malnourished.
On Thursday, Joeatta posted a $10,000 bond and was released from jail. Steve is still in the Madison County Jail on a $100,000 full cash bond.
The Sells’ neighbors caught a glimpse of Joeatta earlier Thursday as she made her way inside the house briefly. Neighbors say she then left the home, driving away in a pick up truck.
24-Hour News 8 paid a visit to the Sells’ home on Thursday. A gate surrounding the home was locked, blinds were down, but one light inside the home remained on.
Neighbors believe another adult is living inside the home at the time.
As the investigation continues, neighbors remain in disbelief by what police say the victim endured.
“It’s just disgusting and…geez,” said resident Thomas McAlister.
24-Hour News 8 will be covering the hearing on Friday morning. Check back with WISHTV.com and watch Friday at noon for the latest.
