SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A medal that the University of Notre Dame awards annually that it describes as the oldest and most prestigious honor given to American Catholics is up for sale on eBay.
The South Bend Tribune reports the asking price for the Laetare Medal is $11,850. The Laetare Medal was first awarded in 1883 and past award recipients include former President John Kennedy, former Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan Jr. and jazz composer Dave Brubeck.
The seller would not say whose name is on the medal, saying only it was a man and it was awarded sometime between 1940 and 1960.
