PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Agents from the FBI raided the office of Putnam County Sheriff Steve Fenwick Monday morning.

The raid comes not two weeks after former Putnam County deputy TJ Smith was sentenced in federal court for using excessive force.

As with any federal raid details are few. Agents spent about two hours inside the offices of the Putnam County Sheriff. Several agents were on hand and carried out numerous boxes and a few binders at the end of their time at the office.

What they were looking for was not confirmed by the US Attorney’s Office, nor would the office confirm that this is further investigation of the TJ Smith case. Smith was sentenced by a federal judge on Dec. 4 to 14 months in prison. A jury convicted him of violating the rights of two people he arrested while he served as a Putnam County deputy.
