INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis International Airport has been named one of America’s greenest airports by the magazine, Urbanful.

According to officials, the airport was chosen because of its Solar Farm, energy efficient terminal and its nature park.

The IND Solar Farm opened in 2011 and a second phase of the Solar Farm was recently approved by the FAA and is on schedule to be completed by the end of 2014. Once complete, IND’s Solar Farm will generate more than 31 million kilowatt hours annually and supply enough energy to power more than 3,200 homes.

Indianapolis International was also recently recognized by Condé Nast Traveler, as the best airport in America based on readers’ votes. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
