WAYNE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A trooper who stopped to help a driver pulled off on the side of the road ended up arresting the man on drug charges.
It happened Saturday afternoon near State Road 1 and Cheesman Road. Police say the man was standing in front of the vehicle and was working on the hood. Inside the vehicle, police say was a woman and two small children.
After speaking with the man, identified as 29-year-old Chad Albright Jr., of Muncie, the trooper realized the man appeared intoxicated on alcohol or drugs.
Police say Albright had a hypodermic needle and a substance believed to be heroin with him. He was arrested and preliminarily charged with possession of a narcotic, a Level 6 felony, possession of a hypodermic needle, a Level 6 felony, maintaining a common nuisance, a Level 6 felony and public intoxication, a Class B misdemeanor.
The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be filed, police say.
