Teen killed in hit-and-run, police look for driver

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police are searching for the driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run Monday night.

The accident happened just before 7:30 p.m. at 34th Street and Franklin Road.

According to 16-year-old Antonia Young’s family, the teen was hit by a black SUV when she was walking with a friend.  They say Antonia was only a block away from her home when she was struck.

When police arrived on the scene, they found Young in the ditch.  They say she was barely conscious. She was transported to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in critical condition. She later died of her injuries.

Police say the car was traveling north on Franklin Road when the accident happened.

The friend walking with Antonia was not hurt and is helping detectives with the investigation.

Police say the vehicle that hit Antonia sustained heavy front-end damage. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477(TIPS).
