End in sight for “Operation Indy Commute”

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Transportation officials say a major construction project on the south side of Indianapolis is now “significantly complete.”

Saturday night INDOT announced that a new two-lane flyover ramp is now open at the I-465 /I-65 interchange.

The department said that additional lanes on I-465 would be open by 6 a.m. The new flyover ramp carries two lanes of traffic from westbound I-465 to southbound I-65, on a new bridge above the interchange.

Officials say its goal is to increase capacity, improve safety, and provide a more efficient flow of traffic.

The “Operation Indy Commute” project is not entirely done though; crews will continue working next year to build sound walls along the corridor.
