INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police said a homeowner shot at two robbery suspects who kicked open the door of his northeast side home Friday night. One of the suspects later died.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, two men kicked open the front door of a home located in the 4500 block of Devon Court, off of 42nd Street, around 9:20 p.m. Police said the homeowner and his fiance were home at the time of the break-in.

The homeowner got his gun and fired multiple shots at the two men, according to police. Neither he nor his fiance were injured.

Around 20 minutes after the suspects fled from the home, officers said a man showed up to Community East Hospital with gunshot wounds. The man was later identified as Deandre Twyman, 22, of Indianapolis.

Police said Twyman was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Detectives are still searching for the second suspect in the home invasion. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS (8477) or the IMPD Homicide office at (317) 327-3475.

IMPD said the homeowner was not arrested as of Saturday evening and is cooperating with detectives. All information will be forwarded to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for a final charging decision.
