INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Detectives in Indianapolis are trying to determine if a person who showed up with a gunshot wound at a hospital was shot during an attempted armed robbery earlier in the morning.
According to a spokesperson for IMPD, officers received a call around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday about shots fired in the 3100 block of Forest Manor Avenue. Someone called police and said there was also some kind of a disturbance at that location.
Officers arrived but were unable to locate a shooting victim. Not too long after, a person showed up at Community East Hospital with a gunshot wound. That person was later transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital and listed in stable condition.
Because of the close proximity between where the shots were fired and Community East Hospital, detectives are investigating whether or not the patient was shot during the attempted armed robbery. Detectives told 24 Hour News 8 that there is reason to believe the to cases are connected, but they need more evidence to prove it.
Detectives at the scene on Forest Manor spoke with a homeowner, who they say was cooperating with police.
Detectives say the victim and one of the suspects were wrestling over the weapon outside the home. During that altercation, detectives say the suspect was shot. Police say the incident doesn’t appear to be random and that the victim and suspects possibly know each other.
Detectives are still investigating. No arrests have been made.
Police on Forest Manor told 24-Hour News 8 Tuesday morning that they have seen an uptick in these sort of incidents recently because of the holiday season.
